Offices
We have offices in four locations throughout Santa Barbara County. The main
office is housed in the Superior Courthouse in Santa Barbara; our north county
office is located in the Court complex in Santa Maria with smaller sub-offices
in Lompoc at the Court and at the Juvenile Court facility in Santa Maria . The addresses and telephone numbers are:

Budget
In fiscal year 2006-2007, the total Office budget was: $8,861,173.
Case Load
The Public Defender Caseload has varied from around 9000 cases/year in 1979
to a peak of over 25,000 cases/year in 1991. It has been rather steady in
recent years, with a roughly equal contribution from North and South County,
the total varying between 21,000 and 25,000 cases/year. The combined North and
South County caseload for 2006 was 25,000.
Employment Opportunities
The Public Defenders Office is a department of the County of Santa Barbara
which operates under a civil service system. Recruitments are handled by the
Human
Resources Department and application materials may be obtained from them.
